Andrew Symonds' Test debut in the
first match against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2004 was not a success in terms of
runs, as he was dismissed for a duck.
He faced first three balls of Kumar
Dharmasena, then willy off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan sharp off spin ball
touching his bat edge and Jayawardena caught it easily. It was disappointing 15
balls innings without scoring a run.
Andrew Symonds was given an
opportunity after a long first class career. At the time of Test debut, he had
played 167 matches, amassed 10,571 runs including 44 fifties and 30 hundreds at
an average of 42.1
